Product Description The third book in the bestselling Baby Whisperer series -- the most comprehensive, up-close, and personal to date!Thousands of parents have asked the Baby Whisperer to help them solve their problems. With this book you too can take advantage of the advice, insights, and parenting techniques from beloved child expert Tracy Hogg. "A problem is nothing more than a situation calling for a creative solution," she reminds us. "Ask the right questions and you'll come up with the right answers." Once you learn how to translate banguage, the "baby-language" your infant uses to communicate needs, feelings, and opinions, you can see your child for who he or she really is -- an understanding that will serve you well as your child blossoms into the toddler years. By helping you establish a daily routine and tailor your parenting strategies according to your child's unique personality and stage of development, Tracy will teach you how to: Ask the Twelve Essential Questions to recognize potential problems and employ the Twelve Principles of Problem Solving -- simple troubleshooting techniques for everyday situations Avoid, or remedy, accidental parenting -- inadvertent adult behavior that often leads to such common parenting challenges as sleep problems, poor eating habits, separation anxiety, and tantrums Be a P.C. parent -- patient and conscious -- who knows how to detect prime times -- windows of opportunity for teaching babies how to get to sleep on their own, introducing bottles to breast-fed babies, toilet training, and other growth issues Inhibit runaway emotions and foster his or her emotional fitness -- the ability to understand and manage feelings ...and so much more. For Tracy's fans, this book will be a welcome addition to the Hogg library; for readers unfamiliar with her philosophy of care, it will open a new world of understanding and insight.

Brilliant! The One & Only Book I Needed January 10, 2007 Diane Hannay (New Zealand) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I purchased this book before my baby was born (based on reviews I'd read on this site). So only fair I post my own review for everyone else.
I found this book really really helpful. My daughter is nearly 11 months and I'm still reading sections on eating etc.
There is a brilliant page entitled 'an average day for a 4 week old baby'. I copied this page and put it on my fridge! If you're a first time mum (or dad) and want some no nonsense advice then get this book.
I also found her Eat-Activity-Sleep-Time for You (EASY) routine good.
I found the advice on sleeping really good. My baby was sleeping through the night by about 3 months.
I did her recommended 'dream feed' (the last feed at between 10-11pm) until around 6 or 7 months old.
She talks about different personality types and I think I have an 'angel' baby ... but I have to take some credit and certainly thank this book for giving me the confidence to relax and be a great mum.
Just one word of warning ... if you're the sort of person that likes the idea of co-sleeping, demand feeding, cuddling your baby off to sleep etc then don't buy this book.
Still Sleepy? April 2, 2006 Brooklyn Mama (Brooklyn, NY) 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
Ok, it is true that you need to ignore the condescending term, "accidental parenting." You also may need to ignore her hokey acronyms, especially if you are a snarky New Yorker like myself. However, once you've done the above, get reading and planning.
We did not want to let our baby "cry it out." We were also not into the idea of having him sleep in our bed until he decided to stop-- perhaps at the age of thirteen. If you did either of the above, that's fine. Do what works for you. But if you are like us, this book will work for you. The first night was terrible. The second night was his normal wake up twice. The third night he slept from 7 pm to 7 am and woke up happy. Now he goes to sleep when it is time for his naps and at bedtime. We no longer have to dance around the room to Nora Jones for 40 minutes. We love Tracy Hogg.
To the reviewer who said that Tracy Hogg did not have children... is Ms. Hogg's son aware of that? He might be shocked.
Finally something that works! January 18, 2005 Laura J. Keil 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
If you've read Tracy's first book and thought, "how different could this one be?" IT IS. The techniques such as pick up/put down are described in more detail and divided into age groups with case studies for each. Defining problems with the technique and why it won't work and changes to it so it will. My 9 month old has NEVER slept through the night, until last night.(almost 11 hours) We have been strictly doing her schedule for the last 1 1/2 weeks for bedtime and naps. Stick with it. Where the first book leaves you guessing as to what to do if....... this one fills in the blanks. It also includes helpful information on development and how it relates to sleeping, eating and prop problems. We had it all and it really seems to be getting better.
The only disappointment was no acknowledgement of the passing of Tracy Hogg. This was a woman who dedicated herself to helping parents everywhere ( we have friends in Brazil who swear by her methods) and you can't find a word about it even on the bookjacket. Publishers should be more sensitive and readers should be informed.
The Baby Whisperer's techniques really work January 12, 2005 Jamie E. Ellingstad (Burlington, WI) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I have been a big fan of The Baby Whisperer since I read and tried the techniques of the first Baby Whisperer book: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby. Tracy has a practical approach that is easy to follow so you can learn what your baby is trying to tell you.
Our little one slept through the night for the first time at 3 months thanks to this book. I learned how to put the baby down for naps before he was asleep and now he is an independent sleeper. I never once let him cry it out in his crib. The pick up put down approach really works you just have to be consistent.
I would recommend this book to any parent who wants to prevent accidental parenting which can lead to chronic problems with: sleeping, schedules, feeding and tons of other things.
Tracy's techniques really work and have made parenting for me the ulitmate joy and experience. Buy the book; you won't be sorry.
Is your Baby's Sleep Schedule not working for your family? Get this book! November 27, 2005 spacecat (Orlando, FL) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
When you have a baby it seems sleeping is the most important topic--especially if your baby is one that doesn't do it well. And if your baby is older than 4 months, then a lot of these books out there just don't help since they are geared towards newborns. But what if you are co-sleeping and ready to get the baby out of the bed? What if your 6 month old still wakes up 3 times or more a night? When do you switch from a 2 1/2 -3 hour routine to a 4 hour routine? How do you incorporate solids into a routine? This new book offers answers and solutions to all of those questions and problems. In fact, I found this book more useful than her first because it actually lays out sample routines based on age. Not that every child will fall into the same routine, but as a new parent starting from scratch, you want some examples! And there are plenty in this book based on many different babies. Tracy Hogg also goes into a great detail about her alternatives to crying it out: the Shh pat for babies under 3-4 months and the pick up put down for babies that are older than 4 months.
So, of you are trying to get your child on a routine and are hitting a lot of frustrating road blocks or just need to tweak it a little, I highly recommend this book. The road to a routine is not necessary easy and it does not happen overnight;it takes a lot of patience and determination, but you will see results with a child that sleeps better and is happier when he/she is a awake.
We started trying a routine around 8 weeks and by 12 weeks our son was sleeping 10 hours a night. Our son in 6 months old now and sleeps 12 hours a night. He takes 3 naps a day ranging from 1-2 hours each. And most importantly he's a happy kid. Whenever I talk to parents about children who do not nap or sleep well, I always recommend the two Tracy Hogg books...
